EXERCISES
Present Perfect versus Simple Past
Think of the following:
Present Perfect has this name because it talks about things that are still relevant to the present, they affect the present somehow.
Simple Past has this name because it talks about things that only belong to the past, they do not have any participation in the present anymore. They are finished situations/actions in the past.
Now, imagine this:
Meg is looking for her cell phone. She can’t find it. She has lost it!
10 minutes later…
Meg has found her cell phone! She has it now!
So…
Has she lost her cell phone?
No, not anymore, because she has it now, she has found it!
Did she lose her cell phone?
Yes, she lost it earlier today.
